Sgt. Howard E. Hurst
Sgt. Howard E. Hurst was assigned to Avel South, Vung Tau Platoon (258th Signal Detachment) in December 1966. He was later transferred to Avel North at Pleiku. He caught a transport up to An Khe and then boarded a C-130 for the flight to Pleiku. The aircraft developed mechanical failure on take off and aborted the take off. It ran out of runway and crashed, bursting into flames. 34 people were killed. 22 survived the crash. Sgt. Hurst was one of those killed. His MOS was 35P20.
He is buried in Golden Gate National Cemetery, San Bruno, California.
