SP/4 Richard L. Page
Rick was born on 27 July 1949 in Richland, Washington.  He entered the Army on 24 March 1969.  He attended basic training at Ft. Lewis, Washington graduating on 23 May 1969.  He was then sent to Ft. Gordon, Georgia to attend Signal School. He began Avionics Communication Equipment Training graduating on 22 October 1969 with the MOS 35L20.
Rick was supposed to be assigned to duty in Germany but for some reason that didn’t happen.  His records show him as a patient in the hospital at Tacoma, Washington from 10 November 1969 to March 1970.  On 12 March 1970 he was assigned to the 605th maintenance Company at the Army facility at Granite City, Illinois.  On 26 June he went home on leave before reporting in at Ft. Leonard Wood, Missouri.
Rick was sent to Vietnam on 15 November 1970 and was assigned to the 520th Transportation Bn., Avel Central at Phu Loi, Vietnam.  He worked his MOS as an aviation radio repairman.
Rick was transferred out of Avel on 13 February 1971 and assigned to Headquarters 520th Transportation Bn. – MARS Station AB8AAL at Phu Loi.  Rick worked there helping us all make those much needed phone calls home.
At 08:30 on 19 July 1971 the MARS Station was struck by a single 122mm rocket.  Rick was killed instantly and his roommate Dennis Stage was wounded.  A memorial service was held for Rick at the 520th  Trans. Bn. Chapel on 25 July 1971.  Rick was buried in Desert Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery, 1401 S. Union St., Kennewick, WA 99337. 
Rick was awarded the Army Commendation Medal posthumously.  The citation states:
"For the performance of exceptionally meritorious service in support of the United States objectives in the counterinsurgency effort the the Republic Of Vietnam during the period November 1970 to July 1971."
