Aloha from Hawaii! A salute to all my fellow AVEL brothers on this Veteran's Day. Proud to have served with a great bunch of guys, I am glad to be part of this great brotherhood that we have.
Thanks to Jack, Jerry and Russ for all the hard work that they do with the reunions. I don't think they get enough credit for all the planning and preparations that must be done every year.
Take care and stay safe.

I have been meaning to put something out about the Reunion sooner but have had a myriad of things going on. First of all it was a great Reunion and there was so much to do in Chicago. For all that were put off by the fact that it was in Chicago the Hotel was in Rosemont a really nice area and the surrounding areas of Park Ridge, Edison Park and Arlington Heights were very upscale. The L Train into Downtown was just steps away from the Hotel and it only cost $2.00. The free cruise on the Wendella that went down the Chicago River was incredible and the highlight of the whole Reunion was the Guest Speaker Major General James Mukoyama. Great speaker and great Soldier. He served under Colonel David Hackworth as an Infantry Company Commander in Vietnam. Jack McCabe put a lot of work into this Reunion and it is a shame we didn't have a better turn out.

Iwas stationed at Ankhe with the 1st Cav. Div.. I was an OV-1 crew chief with the 11th. Gen. Sup. Avn. Co..The OV-1s were on the air strip and not parked with the choppers. The time I was there Jul 66 till Apr. 67. we had two avionics people. Would they have been also with an Avel outfit? Both men were from Hawaii. I don't remember them ever going anywhere to work on anything but our OV-1s.

As to the James Makin comment. He was KIA mar of 68 (his birthday). He was not a US citizen but here on a permanent visa so enlisted to avoid the infantry. He was a sports car mechanic from Charleston S. Carolina. His KIA date was also his birthday. If anyone remembers James my e-mail is tinyworm143@yahoo.com. I and James were in OV-1 mechanics AIT together in 65 at Ft. Rucker. I was a OV-1 crew chief with the 1st. Cav. Div. at Ankhe Jul. 66 till Apr.67.Any info on James would be greatly appreciated. WELCOME HOME Brothers. Ken Coe

I am looking for anyone who may have known James Makin. He was a 67H20 OV-1 mechanic. Maybe crew chief.
